Latinas in Tech (LiT) is a non-profit organization that started with just two friends in need of career support. Fast forward to today, LiT has grown into a multinational community of over 18,000 Latinx women with a local footprint in the US, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Spain, and the UK. LiT's mission is ambitious, just like its members: to reshape the tech industry so that Latinx women are not only well-represented but also thriving in the ecosystem.
Historically, LiT's community convened through in-person workshops, mixers, and recruiting meetups hosted at one of their tech partner office hubs. In 2021, LiT became experts in recreating the magic of their in-person meetups to curate over 80 online events, reaching more than 9,800 Latinx women in tech. LiT aims for a tech industry where Latinas are well-represented throughout all levels of the ecosystem, where they can work and develop professionally in the jobs they want, released from situations of abuses, injustices, or clichés that still exist today.
LiT is focused on empowering and connecting Latinas through three key pillars: Professional Development, Recruiting, and Mentorship. But the highlight of LiT's efforts is their annual Latinas in Tech Summit, which is back and better than ever. This year's summit will take place on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at The Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco, and a one-day virtual experience happening on Friday, May 19, 2023, via MeetYoo. After being fully virtual for the last three years, attendees can finally meet in person and network with top tech companies, influential speakers, and leaders in the tech industry.
The theme of this year's Latinas in Tech Summit is "LET'S GET LOUD!". It's a reflection of the evolution of the diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) conversation, moving beyond bringing in Latino talent to the inclusion, retention, and promotion of Latina talent. The summit will focus on the growth and presence of Latinas in decision-making positions, which is still a problem in many tech companies. Latinas are often overqualified and underutilized, and it's time to get loud and show the world why Latinas are not only necessary to create real innovation, but it's also the right business decision to put Latina's front and center in leadership positions.
The summit will feature over 40 speakers and influential voices, including the first Latina Astronaut and former NASA Director Ellen Ochoa, and Veteran Technology Journalist and Chief Technology Correspondent at Axios Ina Fried, among other Latinx industry leaders. The summit's first day will consist of over ten keynote sessions, fireside chats, panel discussions, a startup competition, and an awards ceremony, and will end with a Recruiting Fiesta. Day two will feature all the content from the previous day available on-demand, as well as over 10 more LIVE virtual workshops hosted by tech leaders and entrepreneurs. Attendees will be able to connect and engage with top tech companies on both days through their in-person and virtual booth exhibitions.
